Ipswich JAFFA have been staging the only Ekiden held in the UK for over 20 years, and it is now a well established fixture in the local racing calendar. It attracts runners from all over East Anglia, with the 2014 event having a record entry of over 150 teams. Striders teams regularly compete and is open to all members, whatever your ability.
The Junior event is for under 16s only, but children aged 8 or under must run with an adult.
The 26.2 mile race will be run by teams of six as a relay. Legs: 1 x 7.2km, 3 x 5km and 2 x 10km
The Junior race will be run by teams of 4 as a relay – (Under 16s only with under 8s to run with an adult). Legs: 4 x 1.1 mile
The race will take place in the grounds of Woodbridge School (Burkitt Road, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 4JH). The accurately measured multi-terrain 2.5k course, which weaves around the school grounds is virtually flat so we should see some fast times.
THE MAIN RACE (all 26.2 miles of it) will be run with teams of 6 as a relay made up of the following legs:
Legs 1 - 7.2k, Leg 2 - 5k, Leg 3 - 10k, Leg 4 - 5k, Leg 5 - 10k, and Leg 6 - 5k
The accurately measured 2.5k course weaves around the school grounds so makes for great viewing and is run on a multi-terrain course within private grounds.
Trophies will be awarded (one per team) as follows:
BBQ, refreshments & ice creams will be on sale on the day.
All members must be fully paid up at the time of team selection and competitors must wear the Striders race vest with black shorts/leggings.
