An exciting new sporting event for the whole family is returning to Stowmarket.

The Golden Mile, hosted by Stowmarket Striders and sponsored by Suffolk County Council, Muntons, Synergyweb and Stowmarket Town Council. We will see runners of all abilities take to the town’s streets on Saturday 2nd September 2017

Sixty years after Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile barrier, up to 300 runners will be able to tackle the iconic distance on closed roads through Stowmarket, finishing on the Recreation Ground, on Finborough Road, just as The Stowmarket Beach Party gets going.

The gun-timed race, will start at 2pm at Pikes Meadow, near Combs Ford, continue up Ipswich Street, swing around the back of Asda superstore and finish through the impressive Stowmarket Memorial gates, which will be opened especially for the occasion.

There will be medals  for all finishers, trophies for first, second and third placed male and female. Advance entry fees are only £3 per entrant (no entries on the day).

For the safety of all competitors and marshals, audio equipment is not permitted during the race.

Children are actively encouraged to take part, but children aged 8 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult, who will also need to complete an entry.

Trophies for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Male and Female runners

Trophies for the 1st U11, U13 & U15

Medals for all finishers

£50 prize money for a new course record for both male and female

The race is a certified distance gun timed race.  Competitors can collect their race numbers from the Events tent at the Race start from 1pm.  These must be pinned to the front of your T-shirt/running vest by four safety pins.

Audio Equipment & ear phones:

All audio devices or similar ear type devices are fully banned as a matter of runners & official’s safety. Any entrant caught using one during the race will be disqualified by the race referee.

Please collect your race number from race headquarters on race day.

I understand that my details will be held on computer to assist in the administration of this event. I also agree not to run with any prior knowledge of injury or illness. I accept that neither the sponsors, nor the organisers or their servants will become liable for any injury, loss or action claim (howsoever occasioned) resulting from this event. I accept that use of audio headphones will lead to disqualification’

In the eventuality of this event being cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, safety reasons or other issues beyond the control of Stowmarket Striders, it is our policy not to offer refunds or deferrals due to costs already incurred. Entry into this event will be considered acceptance of these terms and conditions.

By using our online entry system you are opting in to use of your personal data for essential data processing in relation to the event you have entered and payment processing. You also agree that we may publish your personal Information as part of the results of the event and may pass such information to the governing body, race organisers, or any affiliated organisation for the purpose of insurance, licences or for publishing results either for the event alone or combined with or compared to other events. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You need to comfortably complete a mile distance, children under 8 years of age need to be accompanied by an adult, who should also be entered into the race.

What’s the refund policy?

Sorry, we have a general non-refundable policy – however you can transfer your place up until 20th August or withdraw from the race. If you withdraw we can offer your place to the waiting list, if your place is taken up then we will give you a full refund. Please email us at racenews@stowmarketstriders.org.uk

Can I update my registration information?

If you have made a mistake, then please email us at racenews@stowmarketstriders.org.uk and we will be happy to update your entry for you.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes, you can transfer your place to another runner if you can’t run, please email us at racenews@stowmarketstriders.org.uk and we will be happy to update your entry for you. Please provide the new runners information on your email.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?

No. If you have not officially transferred your place to another runner, please do not give another runner your race number on race day. This can lead to issues for you, the runner using your number, the club, the race organisers, and even the emergency services. UKA race regulations state that athletes who run in transferred numbers in UKA-licensed road races without permission are to be disqualified. Both they and those who pass on the number will be subject to disciplinary action via the appropriate national organisation.

Race Start:

The Race will start at Pikes Meadow, Combs Ford Recreation Ground, Ipswich Road, Stowmarket.  Please gather on the meadow just prior to the race.  Just before the race start the road will be closed and you will be instructed to move onto the road in preparation for the gun start.

Directions & Parking: 

Recommended directions from Ipswich are to leave the A14 at J50, from Bury St Edmunds leave the A14 at J49.

Recommended parking is either at the Regal Cinema Pay & Display on Ipswich Street (approximately 1/4 mile from the start) SatNav postcode IP14 1AZ or ASDA pay and display on Iliffe Way (approximately 3/4 mile from the start, but near the finish line). SatNav Postcode IP14 1PN. Charges are £1 for up to 2 hours at both car parks.

Finish Line:  

The finish line will be through the Stowmarket Memorial Gates at the recreation ground, timings will be recorded and you will enter finish funnels. Please progress through the funnel maintaining your race finish order. You will be presented with your finisher’s medal.

Facilities at the Start:   

Please note that there are limited facilities at the start. There are public toilets available to use at the pub nearby or we suggest using the public toilets at either of the recommended car parks above.

Kit Bags:  

Please leave your kit bags in your car, this is a short race over public space and we are unable to accommodate a bag/kit drop.  The start area will be cleared immediately after the competitors have left the area. The organisers of this event will not be held responsible for any competitor belongings left in this area and anything left on the meadow will have to be cleared for disposal.
